Love Your Closet

When you open your closet, do you love the pieces waiting for you, or are they just holding places until you find something better? And if the answer isn't a love fest ... why?

We all have pieces that are like old trusted friends ... they hug you in comfort, make you feel ready to conquer the world (at least your little corner of it), make you smile or feel confident and sexy. Other pieces are only renting space.

The other day I come across an article which made me realize how many women are feeling unsatisfied with their closets, and examined why.  "Buy things that you love  ...
When you have more information and knowledge, and when you're more educated about what you're wearing, you carry that with you and it gives you a certain confidence." said Elizabeth Cline, author of Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion. "How have quality, design, and self expression been compromised by the age of cheap fashion."

Ms. Cline wants to help you love your wardrobe again, and I think she is onto something. To feel fabulous in your clothing takes your time and effort ... it is about the tactile feel of it against your skin, finding the colour and fit to flatter you, and knowing it expresses your personal style and mood.  Understanding where the pieces come from or how they are made builds on that relationship, and pride of ownership.  We all love deals, but if something is too cheap, ask yourself if it is because the construction will fall apart, or it was made with unethical labour? Details in design and quality fabrics come with a reasonable price tag, one that will keep you happy much longer than slapped together disposable clothing, giving you more pieces to love in your closet.

Check your closet tonight - how many pieces make you to your happy - how many have let you down? Consider the details prior to making your next purchase!
p.s. loving your clothes doesn't apply just to designer labels - a well made foundation will reward you for years - from a great fitting bra, a basic shirt and jeans, a simple dress or the jacket you pull out time and time again.
